What Should I Consider When Hiring a New Employee by Irma Reyes

In this third blog reflection in the series, Irma writes, "I would like to begin by sharing these kind words, “You are a valuable employee.”  A phrase I have heard mentioned quite a few times throughout my career, and one that has had a positive impact on the individuals of those who received the compliment and those who have listened from a near distance. It is not necessarily about the words, rather recognizing each of us brings a unique skill, talent, creativity, and/or other phenomenal qualities that are contributing assets to any organization." At our recent annual meeting and pre-events, we learned from leadership at United Church of Christ Church Building and Loan Fund and the Cornerstone Fund about how congregations can transform their ministry when we engage in God Math and leverage existing assets. Through them we learned of powerful examples that point towards resurrection and rebirth of congregations through reimagining existing property use. Visit their websites (links) to learn more and learn more about how churches across denominations are finding ways to create affordable housing and community space below.

CHURCHES ARE INVITED TO APPLY FOR A.D.A.P.T.

The Center for Transformational Leadership is pleased to invite congregations throughout the SNEUCC (conference) to consider whether the A.D.A.P.T. program is right for them.
You can read more about the A.D.A.P.T. program here.

A first step in the application process would be to visit our website and complete the Threshold Process and Form you'll find here. As a first step in discerning your path forward, it is important to cover these basic concepts of exploring the church life-cycle as it relates to your congregation and to begin to define your church's capacity for the work of transformation.

Once your church has completed the Threshold form, beginning in July 2024 churches will be contacted and, if qualified, invited to apply for participation in the A.D.A.P.T. program. We invite you to consider whether the A.D.A.P.T. process is right for you! Questions, reach us at transform@sneucc.org

Cultivating REFUGIA-Building the Resilient Church - the BTS Center

In biology, the term “refugia” refers to “little pockets… where plants and creatures hide from destruction, hidden shelters where life persists and out of which new life emerges.”

In her book, Refugia Faith: Seeking Hidden Shelters, Ordinary Wonders, and the Healing of the Earth, author Debra Rienstra asks, “How can people of faith become people of refugia? How can we find and create refugia, not only in the biomes of the earth, but simultaneously in our human cultural systems and in our spirits?”

Following two successful Small Church Leadership Community cohorts, The BTS Center is pleased to offer another opportunity for small congregations in Northern New England to join us on this ten-month journey — an invitation to delve deeply into our missions and identities in a climate-changed world. It is worth noting that they have extended the invitation to churches in all of New England. The text included on their website notes only Northern New England, but the CTL has clarified and verified that the BTS Center has extended the invitation to congregations in all six states.

Application closes 6/30/24

Grow Your Church Game - At last Saturday's Annual Meeting, many of you had the opportunity to try out the Grow Your Church game both in the tabletop and giant-sized versions.

This game is designed to get people talking about church vitality through the Marks of Faithful and Vital Local Churches.  It will help deepen relationships with each other and with the congregation’s covenantal partners while laughing, thinking creativity and having critical conversations.

This game is for the decision makers and strategic thinkers. It’s for the board room and the dining room table. It’s for the flower arranging committee and the deacons. This game is for people who love their church and want to experience it grow in vitality and faithfulness.

If you'd like to purchase a tabletop edition, email Beth Lemay .
