A group of adults were gathered at Edwards House in Framingham one October weekend to participate in facilitator training for Our Whole Lives. They included pastors and youth ministers, as well as a lawyer, a marketing coordinator, a doula, and a YMCA program director. Some were parents of teens and young children. They had traveled from NY, ME, RI and all over MA. They represented both UCC and Unitarian Universalist churches.
Our Whole Lives, or OWL, is a program for faith and sexuality education. There is an age specific curriculum and veteran trainers Sandra Greenfield and Jane Detwiler were there to equip new facilitators in a twenty-four-hour training over three days.
In describing the program, Sandra stated that she often hears comment like, “You teach sex education at church?”
“My answer is ‘Where else would you teach about values and relationships?’
