Annual Meeting Speaker to Talk on Entrepreneurial Ministry

The Keynote Speaker for the June 18th Annual Meeting, The Rev. Dr. Patrick Duggan, will be speaking on "entrepreneurial ministry," and how churches can reimagine their building usage in creative ways to connect with their communities.

Duggan is the Executive Director of the Church Building & Loan Fund of the United Church of Christ, and will speak to some of the innovations that the fund has assisted local churches in carrying out. One example: MOLO Village in Louisville, Kentucky, which is home to a community bank, restaurants and other facilities and was constructed by a crumbling church in a depressed urban area with help from the Cornerstone Fund.

God Talks with Executive Minister for Policy and Finance Dawn Hammond

In the latest God Talks interview, Executive Conference Minister the Rev. Darrell Goodwin interviews Dawn Hammond, Executive Minister for Policy and Finance. The interview covered Dawn's early experience in the church through her family, as well as her passion for justice issues and how this has guided her work through 30 plus years of Conference work.

She mentioned how the resources have changed over the years and the challenge or carrying out the work of the church in times when those resources change.

"I think the conference still has a role in curating and pulling together good resources," said Hammond. "But really a conference of churches is a web. It's a connection of churches and people and individuals and our, the role of conference staff, is much more to kind of nurture and sustain and equipment support and help forge those connections and help people and churches and congregations be less isolated."

As Close to Home as Possible: An Update on Ukranian Refugees in Poland

The Rev. Kazimierz Bem, pastor of the First Church in Marlborough, MA, gives the following update:

“We need to plan for the long term” – I heard from the head of the Lutheran Diakonia in Poland – “Most of the refugees will stay here for years. The help from the UCC churches makes it possible. Thank you.”

You all have made it possible. When I first asked you and your congregations for help with Ukrainian refugees in Poland, I hoped to raise $5,000, maybe $10,000. As of today, we have raised just over $133,000.
