A Note from your ACM

Martin Rinkart wrote a beautiful poem, prayer, hymn we know as "Now Thank We All Our God". This poem was written as a table grace for Martin's surviving children after the ravages of the 30 Years and a severe famine and plague, which took his own wife. His words express the Apostle Paul's belief that it is possible to give thanks, have a grateful heart in all circumstances.

Now thank we all our God
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done,
in whom his world rejoices;
who from our mothers' arms
has blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

Somewhere deep within him, Rev. Rinkart was able to find a bit of light in his fractured life, for his children, for his parishioners, for his community. No matter the state of our hearts, or where we are as we enter into this season, God's light is seeking to break through in us, to bless us and to cheer is, in This world and the next".

May each of you feel God's warm presence, God's blessed rest, and God's comfort and joy in the days and weeks ahead.

With Gratitude and Love,

Patty

Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Programs

National and Indiana Clergy Renewal Programs provide an opportunity for pastors to step away briefly from the persistent obligations of daily parish life and to engage in a period of renewal and reflection. Renewal periods are not vacations but times for intentional exploration and reflection, for drinking again from God’s life-giving waters, for regaining enthusiasm and creativity for ministry.
Details and application materials for the 2022 programs are now available. Eligible congregations will be able to apply for grants of up to $50,000 each to support a renewal program for their pastor. Up to $15,000 of the grant may be used for congregational expenses associated with the renewal program.  Applications are open now through April 27, 2022

November Covid Update for Churches: Singing!

As congregations across the Southern New England Conference return to varying levels of in-person worship, laments are rising, becoming louder: We want to sing!
Debbie Ringen writes: "Caring for others is at the foundation of our theology. We desire to keep ourselves and each other safe from infection and possibly death; we also want to maintain morale, membership, and faithful spiritual practices. If your congregation chooses to resume singing indoors, there is no way to guarantee zero risk but there are strategies to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission." UCC Counsel Urges Caution Regarding Boy Scout Charters

United Church of Christ General Counsel Heather Kimmel is advising that churches speak to an attorney before taking any action regarding Boy Scouts of America charter agreements or renewals in light of the BSA’s bankruptcy filing.  Kimmel said churches that are chartering organizations are receiving documents related to the Chapter 11 plan which gives several opt-in choices and an opt-out choice.  “Each choice involves waivers of important rights,” Kimmel said.
