Silver Lake Announces New Name

As of January 1st, 2022, Silver Lake Conference Center will officially become Silver Lake Camp and Retreat Center.

Silver Lake is an amazing green place where all kinds of people gather to grow, play, and learn about themselves amidst God’s infinite love. In the summer, Silver Lake gathers people at camp. In the fall, winter and spring, Silver Lake gathers people in various kinds of retreats.

Open and Affirming Ministry Team Decides to Boycott Boston Pride

The Southern New England Conference ONA Ministry Team was faced with the decision whether to recommend the very popular Boston Pride parade (the largest and safest parade in all of New England) this year. But I have recently been reminded that there are times when our rigid procedures – even those intended to promote a fair, democratic process – keep us from hearing the people most affected by the issue at hand. Process matters. Who we listen to matters. Who we give decision making power to matters. How we relate to one another matters.

As a person with extraordinary privilege – I’m white, I’m highly educated, and I come from a family with plenty of wealth and education – my faith demands me to consider how I use that privilege. Do I keep quiet, maintaining the status quo? Or do I speak up to say that a system where some voices (including mine!) are heard at the expense of others is not only unjust, it limits our ability to be in community.
