Conference Ministers - Past and Present - Issue Pastoral Letter


Ten current and past United Church of Christ Conference Ministers in Southern New England have issued a pastoral letter regarding racism in our country. They write in part:  

Beginning, but not ending with our own institutions and all those where we have the privilege of access, we call on the people of the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ to lead the vanguard to unmask and dismantle racist structures and eradicate racism in our land.  As disciples of Jesus, we can do no less.

It’s Time to Stop Being an Individual!

The Rev. Victoria Alford Guest writes:

It took a little more than 24 hours for hurricane Laura to feed off the unusually warm Gulf waters and intensify from category 1 to category 4.  It took a little more than 10 days for lightning strikes to ignite more than 700 wildfires burning up acreage in California equivalent to the size of the state of Delaware. 

When asked “What is the best thing that an individual can do for the climate?” the environmentalist Bill McKibben gave clear instructions.  He said it is time to “stop being an individual!”

Masks Are More Important Than Ever: Slow the Spread

Deborah Ringen, Transitional Minister of Health and Wellness, writes: Masks seem to be the most challenging precaution for some people. They feel odd, they may make us self-conscious.  Masks are critical, they protect others from you, and you from others. Any one of us could be a super spreader without knowing we carry the virus. We have a social, moral and theological responsibility to follow these guidelines. We must love our neighbor as ourselves!
