Conference Announces Searches to Fill Two New Executive Roles

In a live video released July 27, Executive Conference Minister the Rev. Darrell Goodwin announced that the Conference has two new openings for executive staff positions: an Executive for Area Conference Ministry, and an Executive Minister for Programs and Initiatives. The Conference is also continuing to search for a Major Gifts Officer.

"If you are like me, and you've paid attention to your Facebook feed or your LinkedIn, you have seen what seems like constant announcements about people transitioning out of their roles," Rev. Goodwin said. "It's happening in the context of the local church, conference staffs across the country, and even within the national setting. This isn't just a phenomenon for those of us who are working in helping professions like the church - I'm noticing friends in other fields who are doing the same thing."

Committee Explores Future for Hartford Office; Ashland Land

As the formation of the Southern New England Conference was underway, one of the most frequently asked questions was: where will the office be?

The Board of Directors at the time deferred that question, saying they would establish a vision and mission first, and then would concentrate on putting in place the staff to carry it out.  Property decisions, they said, would come later.

Then, before the new staffing structure was even in place, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the question of office space suddenly lost all urgency. Since March, 2020, the vast majority of SNEUCC staffers have worked remotely.

This fundamental shift in culture has given the Board’s Property Committee – established in the fall of 2021 with a mission to review all of the property owned by the Conference – an obvious place to begin its work. To date, the committee has spent its time considering the Conference’s two most under-utilized properties: the Hartford, CT, office and vacant land that sits in Ashland, MA.

Blessed Memories

The Rev. Patty Kogut, Area Conference Minister, writes:

So, I am a day away from heading to our SNEUCC Silver Lake Camp to serve as Chaplain for Week 5 of this summer’s camping season. A few nights ago, two Deans for the week (Rev. Tina Walker Morin and Tracy Morin) and I began the camp adventure by planning, dreaming and of course, tie dyeing tee shirts!  Nothing says “summer camp” like tie dyeing tee shirts. At least where I came from. And where I came from was “church summer camp”.

Let me be clear, I do not believe I would be your Area Conference Minister, or any kind of minister, were it not for the faith formation and leadership development that began at our sister outdoor ministry setting in Connecticut, the American Baptist Churches Camp and Conference Center.
