A Note from your ACM

Greetings friends,

Around this time each year I am drawn back to the beautiful words of Howard Thurman. The poem reminds us during this season that the "work" of Christmas is not relegated to one day, one week or even one season. Christ's work in us is to be manifest each day we have breath. And the gift and blessing of this work is that Christ manifest in us brings comfort and joy, rest from our burdens and meaning for our lives. My prayer in these days ahead is that you experience God's blessings and peace and that you have the humble opportunity to let the Christ light shine brightly tor those you love and for those you meet.

The Work of Christmas
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among others,
To make music in the heart.
                                Howard Thurman

May you all have a safe and healthy Christmas and a Happy New Year.

News & Resources

Update on Profile Portal & National Office for Authorized Ministers

As you most likely know from their excellent communications, the National Office has been working on migrating the profile portal to a new database. It went live this week! Authorized Ministers with accounts in the old system should receive an email from “Engage Support” asking them to update their password. This is a legitimate email and you should respond to it. The training for the new profile will be recorded for those who were not able to make the training on December 14th. Please also note that the Profile Office will be closed from December 21, 2021, through January 3, 2022.

CC Counsel Urges Caution Regarding Boy Scout Charters

United Church of Christ General Counsel Heather Kimmel is advising that churches speak to an attorney before taking any action regarding Boy Scouts of America charter agreements or renewals in light of the BSA’s bankruptcy filing.  Kimmel said churches that are chartering organizations are receiving documents related to the Chapter 11 plan which gives several opt-in choices and an opt-out choice.  “Each choice involves waivers of important rights,” Kimmel said.
